Research Interests

Current Projects

I am an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of New South Wales. I graduated with my PhD in March 2007, and since then have established a research group primarily investigating stock enhancement in New South Wales. Through my lab I investigate a diverse range of topics, including:

1. Habitat use of migratory behavior and habitat use of bull shark Carcharinus leucas, dusky whaler shark Charcharinus obscurus, mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus), yellowfin bream (Acanthopagrus australis) and dusky flathead (Platycephalus fuscus);
2. Enhancement and recovery of mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus) stocks in New South Wales estuaries;
3. Sea ranching of the eastern king prawns (Penaeus plebejus) and enhancement of recreational penaeid prawn fisheries;
4. Establishing an ecological basis for Australian bass (Macquaria novemaculeata) in freshwater impoundments;
5. Population genetics of mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus) and the eastern king prawn (Penaeus plebejus);
6. Ecology of euphausiid Nyctiphanes australis, in connection with oceanographic features, competitors and predators;
7. Social behavior and ecology of co-occuring estuarine mysid species Rhopalopthalmus egregius, Haplostylus dakini and Doxomysis australiensis;
8. Functional otolith morphology and early growth in Sciaenid fishes;
9. Bioenergetics of mulloway (Argyrosomus japonicus) and eastern king prawns (Penaeus plebejus)
10. Ecology and distribution of estuarine larval fish.
