Slocum Glider Deployments

As a part of the Australian National Facility for Ocean Gliders (ANFOG) and the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), FAMER researchers have deployed 3 Slocum Gliders into the EAC and its associated eddies and filaments.

The current deployment, affectionately known as Nemo 3 by researchers, is displayed in Google Earth below. The aim of this deployment is to measure oceanographic variables (light, temperature, salinity, fluorescence) within the EAC and an associated eddy. The glider was lauched off Crowdy Head, on the NSW Mid-North Coast on 2nd October 2009. It will be retrieved by FAMER reasearchers aboard the Southern Surveyor in late October.

Stay tuned for more updates, but please follow our glider's progress in the Google Earth Gadget below. Your browser should prompt you to install the plug-ins if they are not yet installed.

Please note, that as the Google Earth plugin is only available for Windows and Mac OS, other Operating Systems are out of luck. Click here to download the .kmz file which you can import directly into Google Earth.
